Gorgeous, shiny mulberry silk laps. One of a kind, not repeatable.
What is a silk lap?? When silk cocoons are carded, the shorter, clumpier fibers are left behind on the carding machine drum. The fibers build up and then they are removed in big sheets (each sheet is one “lap” around the drum).
Silk laps are lightly textured with varying lengths of silk fibers and some chunks. They are actually quite easy to spin, and have a wonderful feel when drafting. You can also add them to batts, and even corespun with the laps. Felters like them because you can spread them wide and get a lovely gossamer cobweb effect on the surface of the felt.
If you need a different color message me via chat, available on the bottom right of your screen. I love custom orders and I’m happy to dye the colors you need.
